Ricardo Carvalho sentenced to prison for tax fraud in Spain

Yet another player has been fined for tax fraud by the Spanish tax authority. This time it’s former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho who has been sentenced to 7 months in prison and fined 142,882 euros [£128,222] for crimes against the Spanish tax authority according to SkySports.

It is unlikey he will serve any jail time because in Spain, any sentence under two years for a non-violent crime rarely requires a defendant without previous convictions to serve jail time.

Carvalho joins an elite list of football players charged by the Spanish tax authority, most notably, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
